Discover Tio Tony's Mexican Restaurant

Walking into Tio Tony's Mexican Restaurant feels like stepping into a familiar neighborhood spot where the staff already knows what you’re going to order. I’ve stopped by more times than I can count, usually after a long drive through Midlothian, and it’s always the same comforting rhythm: warm chips hitting the table within minutes, a friendly hello from the server, and that unmistakable aroma of sizzling fajitas drifting from the kitchen. Located at 110 N 13th St, Midlothian, TX 76065, United States, the restaurant sits right where locals expect it to be-easy to find, easy to love, and hard to forget once you’ve eaten there.

The menu leans heavily into classic Tex-Mex favorites, but what stands out is how consistently everything is prepared. On one visit, I watched the kitchen staff prepping fresh pico de gallo early in the afternoon, chopping tomatoes, onions, and cilantro by hand. That attention to process matters. According to the National Restaurant Association, over 70% of diners say freshness influences where they choose to eat, and you can taste that mindset in every bite here. The enchiladas arrive hot and well-sauced, the tacos are generously filled, and the rice and beans aren’t just filler-they’re seasoned properly and served with care.

One of my go-to orders is the combination plate because it shows off the range of the kitchen. You get a little of everything, and nothing feels like an afterthought. Friends who’ve joined me often comment on the portion sizes, usually followed by laughter and a request for a to-go box. In several local reviews, diners mention how the restaurant strikes a balance between value and quality, which is something many family-owned diners struggle to maintain over time.

The atmosphere stays casual and relaxed, making it a popular choice for weeknight dinners and weekend lunches alike. Families feel comfortable here, and solo diners don’t feel rushed. During one visit, I overheard a regular telling a first-timer that this place is worth the drive, and judging by the packed tables, that sentiment is widely shared. Online reviews consistently highlight friendly service, and that lines up with my own experience. Servers check in often without hovering, and special requests are handled without any eye-rolling or long waits.

From an expertise standpoint, the food reflects a clear understanding of traditional Mexican cooking adapted for a Texas palate. Dishes rely on time-tested methods-slow-simmered sauces, grilled meats, and balanced seasoning rather than heavy spice. The World Health Organization has noted that meals built around whole ingredients tend to be more satisfying, and while this isn’t health food by definition, it avoids the overly processed feel you find in some chain restaurants.

There’s also a sense of trust that builds with repeat visits. Prices remain reasonable, menus don’t change randomly, and the flavors stay consistent. That reliability is something diners value, especially in smaller towns where word travels fast. One limitation worth noting is that peak hours can mean a short wait, but most locals seem to accept that as part of the experience rather than a drawback.

Whether you’re scanning reviews before choosing a dinner spot or already familiar with the local dining scene, this restaurant delivers what people expect from a solid Mexican diner: hearty food, welcoming service, and a place that feels grounded in its community. It’s the kind of spot where memories are made over shared plates, and where coming back feels less like a decision and more like a habit.

  • It's a pretty good place to eat. Prices are reasonable and worth visiting repeatedly if you are in the area. For a typical Mexican place it does the job well. I enjoyed my meal!

  • Was out driving around feeling out the area to see if we want to move down there. Got pretty hungry so we stopped by this spot not thinking much of it but man 100/10 this absolutely hit the spot. Food was great, service was top of the line, and the atmosphere makes it feel so welcoming. Even if we dont move there, we WILL be going back regardless of how far it is

  • Great place to satisfy your Tex-Mex cravings! Its our go-to. Check out their weekend breakfast! Tony's offers many American breakfast staples, and also has a wide selection of true tex-mex breakfast items from migas, menudo, chilachiles, and specialty omelettes. On our last visit, I got the chorizo omelette and it was out of this world! The sauce on the omelette was enough to light up my mouth, but only for a moment. My wife had her 'usual': menudo (with all the add-ons) and a barbacoa taco. Tio Tony's is our go-to for Tex-Mex in Ellis County. Should be yours too.

  • Coming from San Antonio it has been hard to come across good mexican breakfast in Dallas. We decided to give Tio Tony's a try and everything was delicious. We had barbacao tacos, bacon egg with cheese, heuvo ranchero plate, asada tacos, and your basic bean and cheese taco. The sweet teas were also very good. Customer service was excellent. Everything was a 10/10. The price was a little unexpected but we'll worth it.

  • My favorite Mexican restaurant in the area. My family and I are definitely regulars and the service and attention to detail is outstanding. I'm gluten intolerant and they always make sure I get corn tortillas and the quesadilla with a corn tortilla with my comilada. The prices are great and the salsa is to die for!
